Pregnancy With Sickle Cell Disease — My Testimony of Three Full-Term Babies
Day 14: Led by the Shepherd Through Pregnancy
Scripture
“The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.
He makes me to lie down in green pastures;
He leads me beside the still waters.” — Psalm 23:1–2
After my first safe delivery, I knew I had witnessed a miracle.
But life with God often unfolds in quiet chapters—each one building gently upon the last. The next chapters came through the pregnancies of my next two children.
When I became pregnant again, I had a clearer understanding of the delicate path many women living with sickle cell must walk. Medical literature does not hide the risks: complicated pregnancies, miscarriages, preterm births, or babies born too small even at full term.
These are not theoretical possibilities. They are real experiences for many women.
So I approached my second pregnancy with humility, knowledge, and faith.
Some days were easy. Some days were not.
There were moments when my body reminded me of its limitations. Moments when rest was not optional but necessary. Moments when prayer became my greatest source of strength.
But through it all, I kept returning to one quiet truth from Scripture:
The Lord is my Shepherd.
A shepherd does not abandon his sheep to uncertain paths.
He leads.
He guides.
He watches. He protects.
When labor came, it came naturally. And once again, I delivered safely—a healthy baby with a good birth weight.
Another testimony of God’s quiet guidance.
Then came my third pregnancy.
By this time, I had learned something precious about the Shepherd’s care: sometimes His leadership does not remove the journey—He simply carries you through it.
And once again, the Shepherd led me.
Past every fearful thought.
Past every medical concern.
Past every anxious moment.
Week after week passed until my baby reached full term.
Then labor came again.
And once more, I experienced a natural delivery.
Three pregnancies.
Three labors.
Three full-term babies.
Every one of them born with healthy birth weight.
When I look back today, I see the beauty of Psalm 23 more clearly.
Green pastures and still waters represent places of nourishment, safety, and peace—places where the Shepherd ensures His sheep have everything they need.
Even in a body that many considered fragile, the Shepherd was still leading.
During my first pregnancy, I did not yet know much about nutritional support for people living with sickle cell disease. I remember frequent hospital admissions, blood transfusions, and painful crises. It was an exhausting season.
But during my second pregnancy, I was introduced to vitamin B12 supplementation, and it helped tremendously. Later in my third trimester, I was introduced to liquid chlorophyll. I began taking it regularly—from that time until delivery, and throughout my breastfeeding period.
When my third pregnancy came five years later, the difference was remarkable. I experienced minimal complications. In fact, I had zero blood transfusions throughout that pregnancy—even after delivery when I suffered a postpartum hemorrhage.
I later learned something fascinating: chlorophyll has a chemical structure very similar to hemoglobin in human red blood cells. The difference lies mainly in their central elements—iron in hemoglobin and magnesium in chlorophyll. In many ways, taking liquid chlorophyll felt like receiving blood transfusion from nature itself.
Just when I thought I had seen it all, God led us again to another discovery years later—VIVE health drinks, which my husband encountered at a medical conference. We soon learned that it contains many of the nutrients that support blood health and immunity.
It has been such a blessing. Not only has it helped maintain my hemoglobin levels, but it has also strengthened my immune system and reduced the frequency of my sickle cell crises.
Through all of this, I have come to see something profound:
God is indeed both a healer and a Shepherd.
He has placed healing within creation itself. Sometimes our responsibility is simply to discover it, steward it wisely, and allow our bodies to benefit from what He has already provided.
Today, my gratitude runs deep—not only for God’s miraculous protection but also for the advances in biomedical and nutritional science that continue to improve lives.
Looking back at those pregnancies, I see the Shepherd’s fingerprints everywhere.
He led me beside still waters.
And He truly provided everything I needed.
Praise Declaration
Today I praise the Lord, my faithful Shepherd.
Through two more pregnancies and two more natural deliveries, He led me beside still waters and provided everything I needed.
Where fear could have ruled, His guidance prevailed.
The Lord is my Shepherd—and truly, I lack nothing.
