Scripture
“My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness.”
— 2 Corinthians 12:9
Pain May Visit the Body, But It Does Not Have Permission to Rule the Soul
Anyone living with sickle cell disease knows that pain can arrive without warning.
A normal day can suddenly become a battle.
There were nights when pain wrapped itself around my bones like a tight grip that refused to loosen. My body would grow weak, every movement heavy, every breath an effort. Those were the nights when sleep felt impossible and the hours crawled slowly toward morning.
In those moments, the question was never just about physical strength.
It was about faith.
Sickle cell pain crises are not just medical events—they are spiritual tests. When pain intensifies, fear often tries to follow. Thoughts whisper:
Will this pass?
How long will this last?
Will my body hold on?
But through every crisis, I learned something powerful.
Pain may enter the body, but it does not have the authority to rule the soul.
There were nights when the only thing I could do was whisper prayers between waves of discomfort. Sometimes the prayer was as simple as:
“Lord, help me.”
And somehow, God always showed up.
Sometimes He sent relief through medication.
Sometimes through rest.
Sometimes through the quiet strength to endure one more hour.
But always through grace.
I discovered that God’s grace does not wait for pain to disappear before it appears. His grace shows up right in the middle of the suffering.
When my body was weak, His strength carried me.
When fear tried to rise, His peace steadied my heart.
Looking back now, I realize something beautiful: those painful seasons deepened my faith. They taught me to lean on God in ways comfort never could.
Pain was real.
But so was His presence.
And His presence always proved stronger.
Praise Declaration
Today I praise God for strength in painful seasons. Even when my body struggled, His grace never failed. Even when weakness came, His power held me up. Pain may visit the body—but my soul belongs to God.

but faith writes the ending.
