DAY 28: More Than a Diagnosis — Overcoming Sickle Cell Limitations

More Than a Diagnosis

There are moments in life when a single word tries to define your entire existence.

For me, that word was SS.

Not just letters on a medical report—
but a label that came with expectations, limitations, and silent predictions about how far I could go… or how long I might last.

It tried to tell me:

  • “You will always be weak.”
  • “You will live a restricted life.”
  • “You will never fully escape this pain.”

And for a while, I listened.

But then… I encountered Jesus.

Not religion.
Not routine church attendance.
But a transforming relationship that rewrote my identity from the inside out.

And suddenly, I realized something life-changing:

My diagnosis may explain my condition—
but it does not define my identity.

A New Identity Was Born

The day I gave my life to Christ, something deeper than my blood genotype changed.

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.” — 2 Corinthians 5:17

This was not just a comforting verse—it became my reality.

Yes, my test results may still read SS.
But heaven reads something different.

  • Redeemed
  • Restored
  • Recreated
  • Repositioned

I stopped introducing myself silently as “a sickle cell patient.”

Instead, I began to live as:
A woman of faith.
A vessel of purpose.
A testimony in motion.

When Identity Shifts, Everything Changes

Pain still came.
Crises still tried to rise.

But they no longer had the authority to define me.

Because when your identity changes:

  • Fear loses its grip
  • Limitations lose their power
  • And purpose begins to speak louder than pain

I began to see that I was not created to merely survive sickle cell…

I was called to shine through it.

This Is Bigger Than Sickle Cell

This is for anyone who has ever been labeled:

  • By a diagnosis
  • By a past mistake
  • By someone else’s opinion

You are not what they called you.

You are who God says you are.

Praise Declaration

Today, I lift my voice in praise—
because my identity is not rooted in my condition…

It is rooted in Christ.
