DAY 29: When Life Doesn’t Follow Medical Expectations

When Life Refuses to Follow the Script

There is a script many sickle cell warriors are expected to follow.

Frequent hospital visits.
Routine medications.
Recurring crises.
Predictable decline.

And to be clear—
medical care is essential, valid, and life-saving.

But my journey…
has not followed that script.

A Different Kind of Instruction

Years ago, God began to gently shift my understanding of care.

Not away from medicine—
but deeper into stewardship.

He reminded me of something that had been written from the very beginning:

“And God said, ‘See, I have given you every herb that yields seed… and every tree whose fruit yields seed; to you it shall be for food.”— Genesis 1:29

This was not just about eating.

This was about living intentionally.

When Food Became Medicine

Interestingly, even the ancient physician popularly known as the Father of Medicine, Hippocrates, once said:
“Let thy food be thy medicine.”

But long before that wisdom was spoken, God had already designed it.

So I began to listen.

And I became intentional.

  • Green leafy vegetables became non-negotiable
  • Fruits became daily companions
  • Whole grains and nuts became part of my rhythm
  • Simple health habits became my lifestyle

Not occasionally.
Not when I “felt like it.”

But consistently.

Let Me Be Clear

This is not a rejection of medical care.

In fact— if you are a sickle cell warrior, please follow your doctor’s advice.

Take your medications.
Keep your appointments.
Do what is required.

But for me,
God added another layer:

Discipline. Wisdom. Responsibility.

When God Writes Your Story Differently

And somehow…

My life began to look different from the expected pattern.

Not perfect.
Not pain-free.
But not predictable either.

Because there is a difference between: What doctors predict and what God permits.

And when God is involved,
outcomes can shift.

This Is the Balance

Faith is not carelessness.
Faith is not neglect.

Faith is:

  • Listening
  • Obeying
  • Partnering with God in your healing journey

Praise Declaration

Today, I praise God—
because my life does not follow the normal sickle cell trends.

I am living proof that:
God can write a different story.
