Dare It While You Can: Celebrating Little Wins in the Midst of Chronic Illness

Sometimes, strength doesn’t look like loud victories or big milestones. Sometimes, it looks like showing up… quietly, courageously… even when your body is tired and your strength feels limited.

Last weekend, I found myself doing something that, on some days, would feel impossible.

It was one of those days when God gave me grace to go on medical missions with my husband and our team—and when those moments come, I don’t hesitate. This time, it was at Angwan-Gboko, Airport Road, Abuja. And all I can say is ‘God be praised’.

For someone who has lived with a chronic condition for five decades,  opportunities like this are not taken for granted. Every outing, every assignment, every chance to serve is all grace.

And that is why I’ve learned something deeply personal and powerful:

Dare it when you can.

When your body gives you a window—no matter how small—step into it.
When strength rises, even just a little, use it.
When grace shows up, follow it.

Because not every day feels the same.

There are days when getting out of bed is a victory.
Days when just smiling through the discomfort is an achievement.
Days when rest is the only assignment.

But then… there are days when strength comes.

And on those days—you dare.

You show up.
You serve.
You live.

Not because it’s easy… but because it’s possible.

And every single one of those moments? They matter.

Celebrate your little wins.

Celebrate the days you tried.
Celebrate the days you showed up.
Celebrate the days you didn’t give up—even when you had every reason to.

Because in the journey of chronic illness, little wins are not little at all.
They are evidence of grace.
They are proof of resilience.
They are reminders that your life is still full of purpose.

The world may not always see these victories—but heaven does.

And more importantly… you should too.

Scripture reminds us:

“I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.” — Philippians 4:13

This doesn’t mean we won’t have limitations.
It means that within those limitations, Christ gives us strength for what He has called us to do—on each given day.

Some days, that strength is for rest.
Some days, it is for service.
Some days, it is simply for holding on.

But every day, it is enough.

So to you reading this—especially if you are navigating life with a chronic illness:

Don’t wait for perfect strength.
Don’t measure your life by what you cannot do.

Instead—
Dare what you can.
Do what grace allows.
Celebrate every step.

Your journey is not small.
Your strength is not insignificant.
Your story is not over.

And in every moment you choose to rise—no matter how gently—
you are turning your pain into gain.

God be praised.
